Elementary school education focuses on the basic skills that students need in the early years as they study how to learn. Elementary school education is discovering the world of learning. In most cases, elementary school education students attend the school closest to their home. Children may start at elementary school education at any age between four and six years of age. Most children finish elementary school education at or around twelve years of age.
Children in elementary school education are usually placed in classes with one teacher who will be primarily responsible for their education and welfare for that year. This teacher may be assisted to varying degrees by specialist teachers in certain subject areas, often music or physical education. The education in elementary school education consists of learning to read, write, basic math and general knowledge. In some elementary school education, a first foreign language is introduced, usually English. The subjects mainly taught in elementary school are: art drama music SPHE Social, Personal, Health Education, and Religion. The content of the Religion course taught depends on the management of the elementary school education. Each elementary school education body decides on the emphasis of its religious instruction. Elementary school education used to have a six day school week, Monday to Saturday. In most elementary school education, children are grouped by age in mixed ability classes, with one teacher for all subjects. Elementary school education provides the foundation for all students. In the final year of elementary school education, children receive a recommendation as to which further school they can attend.
