Bicycles and gift wrapping

A small study of two behaviors, which are almost universally taught by all Americans, reveals some shocking information about the effectiveness of some techniques learning that we choose to use to educate our children.

Over the last six months, we carry a small informal poll on our trip to America, and it led to very interesting data and very difficult. We hope that sharing this information with you a serious reflection on what you choose encourage your children to learn and reflect on some of the above techniques we use in all teaching lessons important life for the next generation.

During these six months we have literally tens of thousands Americans asked if they know how to ride a bike and we found two women and one man who can not! We also asked that the same sample Americans as they wrapped presents at Christmas and gave them to his family, and we found that thirteen men and seven women, n have not done this work love!
(And n was not because that they do not know how, but because that they had decided not to moral or religious reasons.) So, you say This surprised us about this information? Simply this… cycle and the current package with Christmas are both learned behaviors! You ‘re probably still say then?

Well, it seems that we as a society, a masterful job of teaching of these two behaviors to almost complete universality do it! We succeeded in the teaching almost everyone in America for cycling and wrap gifts at Christmas.

And yet, we let the other, apparently much more critical behaviors such as honesty, integrity, teamwork team, compassion, loyalty, respect for private property, respect for diversity, diligence, l love, morals, and many other critical behaviors, much less be taught universal and much less effective! He s is produced for us that this might be of interest to both of these behaviors (the bikes and the current package) to be examined to see why we are so successful in the Education of these activities.

And, more importantly, we could learn more about the fact that most successful of the most critical teaching life lessons. How can we teach children to ride a bike? They n not learn to ride a bike by reading a manual. They learn not to drive u200b u200bfiets by listen to us talk about how to do.

And they don certainly not teach a u200b u200bfietstocht watching us! Children learn to u200b u200bfiets to drive when we on the chair and put the loose! They learn by experience and they want to learn, because we like to paint a fascinating picture of how it will be great when they learn. And if they fall or fail? We pick them up, dust them off, give them encouragement and guidance, we then return the seat to try again.

Sometimes we give them an education on wheels or walking with them u200b u200ben to provide assistance, but it because that s they learn about the chair with the wheel in their hands. How do you think these kids would do when learning to ride a bike, like the first time she fell we ran to them, reprimand them for fall and told them how we were disappointed by their failure, took the bike path, they land for three weeks and sent to their room to think about how you ride a bike.

Do you think technology could lead to a company with only a few people in thousands of people who can not ride a bike? We sincerely doubt it. Why do we think we can teach responsibility by scolding the children, the land and remove d other opportunities for officials and send them to their room? Should we pit em back on the chair?

Should we , pick up, to dust off the few incentives and instruction in the responsibility to develop and then, as soon as possible, give them another chance be responsible? Should not a child is cruel joined a child to receive education in kindness, l encouragement that we believe in their very nature nature, and then immediately given another opportunity to be friendly?

Now let a coup d quick look on the packaging time and the exchange of gifts at Christmas. Why are we so successful in the teaching of this rather complex and beautiful act of love, kindness, joy and sharing? We succeed in this task for most of the same reasons that we succeed in teaching children to ride a bike… Let children learn by experience. Before that they are old enough to much about what happens to understand, we begin to introduce them to the experience by giving them some gifts.

We continue to give them their gifts each year experience as soon as possible and let them live the experience to give the other side of the medal by helping to pack gifts for others. Above all this experience, we present wrapped in a grand procession of excitement.

We start counting the days until that the big day… Only 72 days d purchases left. Our entire society speaks with excitement and anticipation, l spirit of Christmas and the magic of upcoming event. And, surprise, they all end up to participate, as in the behavior of each year. And if we, as a total society, ethnic diversity was celebrated with the same degree of joy, the ceremony, l anticipation, and enthusiasm that we attribute to give gifts Christmas? Interesting to think what might happen in the next generation.

We believe that an easy job prioritization in our society could make some wonderful and welcome change youth behavior in America. (Hey, it might even bring some welcome changes in the behavior of adults.) We believe that we as parents and society as a whole, can do that if we choose, but all communities like yours in this country should s hire high. What behavior would you see as a universal given in your community?
